Old homestead along Hwy 2 West Manitoba, Sept 9/18.

Whenever I photograph abandoned homesteads such as this I marvel at the fortitude and independence of the people who built them and developed the land. My mother's family were one of these pioneers and from her stories I know something of the hardships they suffered. Hardships most of us can't imagine today.

The Devil's Punch Bowl in Spruce Woods Provincial Park, MB September 3/18.

As Wikipedia states: Spruce Woods Provincial Park is located in south-central Manitoba, Canada where the Assiniboine River passes through the delta of sediment left by the last glaciation.^[2] An area of open and stabilized sand dunes within the park provides habitat to species of plants and animals not found elsewhere in Manitoba.

As I state ;-) : It's a very special place, and if you go which I recommend, don't even try to keep sand out of your footwear! The oasis-like Devil's Punch Bowl's ice cold water is fed from subterranean springs.
